Just In: the Houston club requested a total of $500,000 in funding, as well as one foreign roster space, for the 2024 and 2025 seasons.
HOUSTON (April 20, 2024) The Houston Dash traded forward María Sánchez to San Diego Wave FC for $500,000 and one international roster place for the 2024 and 2025 seasons, as revealed today. The Dash will earn $300,000 in Intra-League Transfer Funds and $200,000 in Allocation Money as part of the move.
Sánchez joined Houston on a short-term loan in 2021 before signing with the club ahead of the 2022 season. The forward signed a long-term contract in December 2023, just after the free agency period began. The 28-year-old participated in 62 games for the Dash across all competitions, scoring eight goals. She had 14 assists for the squad and played in all four of Houston’s games this season.
Sánchez began her professional career with the Chicago Red Stars, who selected her in the second round of the 2019 NWSL College Draft. The attacker spent the next two years in Mexico, where he represented Chivas de Guadalajara and UANL Tigres Femenil.
The Dash will meet Portland Thorns FC at Providence Park later today, the first of two games on their road trip. The contest begins at 9 p.m. CT, and fans can watch it live on ION (TV guide).
