What has happened to Denny Hamlin and FedEx was so…

Denny Hamlin’s longstanding partnership with FedEx as the primary sponsor on his NASCAR Cup Series car has taken a notable turn recently. Despite their enduring collaboration since Hamlin’s debut in 2005, FedEx’s presence on his No. 11 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota has dwindled, with only a few minor decals adorning the car. This shift became particularly evident when FedEx ceased to be the primary sponsor after the June race at Nashville Superspeedway.

Instead, various other sponsors have stepped in to fill the void. Yahoo! sponsored Hamlin’s car in Chicago, while Coca-Cola backed him at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Additionally, Mavis Tires & Brakes entered a five-race deal with Joe Gibbs Racing to sponsor Hamlin at select events. However, FedEx’s absence as a primary sponsor raises questions about the future of their partnership with Hamlin and Joe Gibbs Racing beyond the current season.

Although there were initial reports of FedEx planning to renew their sponsorship for 2024, no official announcement has materialized. Even if a renewal does occur, it is unlikely to result in increased appearances on the No. 11 Toyota, contrasting with their extensive presence in previous years.

While both Joe Gibbs and Toyota Racing Development have expressed confidence in Hamlin’s return to the team next year, no formal confirmation or contract signing has taken place. Speculation surrounds the possibility of Hamlin joining his own team, 23XI Racing, as a third driver alongside Bubba Wallace and Tyler Reddick. Despite concerns about the financial viability of running three full-time cars, the team has the necessary resources to make it happen, having expanded to two cars just a year ago. Until official announcements are made, uncertainty looms over Hamlin’s future and the status of his partnership with FedEx.
