Red Bull Racing has expressed excitement about the upcoming upgrades during the United States Grand Prix weekend. The Austrian Formula One team will employ these updates on track for the first time on Friday, but Max Verstappen claims he has no idea what effect they will have.
How does Verstappen feel about the upgrades?
Helmut Marko and Christian Horner had already declared that there will be a big update package at the Circuit of the Americas, so Red Bull has used the time between the F1 races in Singapore and Austin to concentrate on the car. Verstappen has not yet tried the changes in the simulator. “I haven’t tried it, so we’ll see. We don’t have much time to properly test anything. To be honest, we’ll just see how things proceed. “I have no idea what it will give me right now,” he stated in the paddocks
When asked if he feels pressure from McLaren due to the excellent form of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri’s squad, Verstappen answered, “You could say so, but I’m not, because I know that when I get in the vehicle, I strive to do my best. When the car is capable of producing satisfactory results, I will deliver them. When it is not, things will be a little more difficult. Of course, I enjoy winning races and championships. But whatever occurs, happens. If not, it doesn’t. It’s the way life is.
The three-time world champion confesses that assessing and analyzing new parts is more challenging during a sprint weekend because drivers only have one hour of practice. “You rely on data then. Because it is really difficult to complete in a single session. Because you only start with the car. That’s the package. You try to balance it, you try to find the best setup on it, and then you rely on the data,” Verstappen explained.
Verstappen did not expect to overtake McLaren simply.
The championship leader does not expect Red Bull to easily surpass McLaren with the new modifications. “If you look at the pace and contrast in Singapore, absolutely not. But each track is unique. We know that Singapore is not our strongest track anyway, but I don’t expect that suddenly it’s going to be completely different and we are going to be the dominating car. We have our limitations a bit with this car already the whole year. Now we’re trying to make it better, but don’t expect it to completely swing,” he stressed.
