West Ham United defender Max Kilman has received odd criticism from Guardian columnist Jacob Steinberg.
Max Kilman joined West Ham for about £40 million in the summer, a move that Julen Lopetegui was heavily criticised for at the time.
However, he has proven to be an excellent addition for the Hammers. Lopetegui even considered designating him the new club captain before Jarrod Bowen took over the role.
The West Ham head coach was well familiar with the center defender, having tutored him while at Wolves.
And now everyone understands why the Spaniard worked so hard to lure Kilman to the London Stadium this summer.
The centre-back is already extremely popular among Hammers fans. He’s been immaculate for us this season, which is why the new criticism of him is so surprising.
Totally odd criticism of West Ham ace Max Kilman
The former Wolves player has been by far our finest player this season.
He has expertly marshalled our backline and been a true behemoth for us.
That did not stop one journalist with high-level West Ham connections from criticizing the 27-year-old.
Last night, Guardian journalist Jacob Steinberg used his official X account to take a cheap dig at Max.
“West Ham and Kilman escape with one at Craven Cottage. There is little sign that Lopetegui’s ideas are working yet. Fulham outplayed us today, and we were lucky to draw.
How odd is that for Steinberg? In my opinion, this is completely weird.
Kilman was rock solid for us again yesterday, and if anyone should have been reprimanded, it was Konstantinos Mavropanos.
Max Kilman is West Ham’s finest player this season.
If the centre-back stays with the Hammers for another five years, he will almost certainly become a club icon.
Max’s impassioned, fully dedicated performances have already won over the fans.
He is easily good enough to play for the England national team, especially with the current shortage of top-tier English centre-backs.
At the age of 27, he still has at least six or seven tremendous years ahead of him, possibly more if he stays in condition.
West Ham’s capture of Max Kilman for £40 million in the summer transfer window appears to be a wonderful deal for us.
And I believe that transaction will become increasingly attractive as time passes.
