Lowe is fit: Sheffield Wednesday team news and probable XI to face Sunderland

Sheffield Wednesday will head north to the Stadium of Light on Sunday afternoon to face Sunderland in the Championship.
Sheffield Wednesday go to the northeast hoping to continue their unbeaten start to the 2024/25 season.

The Owls had the greatest performance of the opening weekend, thrashing a poor Plymouth Argyle on home turf. Danny Rohl’s side easily defeated Wayne Rooney’s team, winning 4-0.

They were also triumphant against Championship opponents in their midweek Carabao Cup meeting.

Wednesday travelled to Humberside to face Hull City, and won 2-1. All of the goals came within the opening 10 minutes, with debutant summer acquisition Charlie McNeill scoring twice before the Tigers’ Marvin Mehlem equalized.

It will be hoped that they can produce a similar performance against Sunderland, who will be looking for another win after defeating Cardiff City on the road on the first day.

The good news keeps coming for Sheffield Wednesday fans, as manager Rohl reported no fresh injury concerns when speaking to the press ahead of this weekend’s trip to Sunderland.

There had been some fear about Max Lowe, but Rohl, according to The Star, expressed no concerns. Ben Hamer is still out, thus Pierce Charles will most likely be on the bench as James Beadle takes over in goal after the two traded roles in the cup.

Akin Famewo and Nathaniel Chalobah are both working their way back to full fitness after missing the first two. The former has been training, while the latter appears to be following closely behind him.

It provides Rohl a large pool of players to choose from as Sheffield Wednesday aim to build on their early success.

Beadle, Valery, Bernard, Iorfa, Lowe; Ingelsson, Bannan; Gassama, Windass, Musaba; Lowe.

Rohl has a large pool of players to choose from, but with no fresh difficulties following the cup success, Sheffield Wednesday should return to the starting lineup that defeated Plymouth Argyle the previous Saturday.

Beadle will return to the starting lineup, and with Lowe looking healthy, he should keep his place at left-back.

The midfield pairing appears to be forming on its own, with Barry Bannan and Svante Ingelsson holding down the fort despite having little options. There is room for improvement ahead of them, with Charlie McNeill, Olaf Kobacki, and Marvin Johnson among those hoping to get started.

However, it appears that Jamal Lowe will continue to play at the top while Ike Ugbo regains full fitness. Josh Windass is anticipated to start directly behind him, with Anthony Musaba and Djeidi Gassama on the wings.
