breaking news: Justin Gaethje says ‘precise and perfect’ Max Holloway was difficult to beat following his horrific knockout loss at UFC 300.
Justin Gaethje’s fight with Max Holloway at UFC 300 resulted in one of the most legendary finishes in UFC history. ‘The Highlight’ was the first titleholder to attempt a BMF title defense. However, things did not proceed as planned, although Gaethje never denied giving credit to Holloway.
Justin Gaethje recently had a talk with UFC analyst Jon Anik and former fighter Kenny Florian. During their chat on the Anik & Florian podcast, Gaethje discussed his viral knockout defeat to Max Holloway at UFC 300. ‘The Highlight’ also complimented the former champion on his performance in the octagon.
Max Holloway was the underdog into the fight. ‘The Highlight’ was on a two-fight win streak. He won the BMF title by severely knocking out Dustin Poirier in his last battle. However, once the fight began, Holloway swiftly increased the tempo. According to the judges’ scorecards, the former champion had won all but the fourth round. Without Holloway, the bout would most likely have gone to the judges.
Everyone knows what happened, and Holloway won via knockout with only one second remaining on the clock. During the octagon interview, Holloway addressed featherweight champion Ilia Topuria. According to speculations, the UFC is attempting to set up a showdown between the two. As a result, fans are unlikely to witness a rematch in the near future.
Justin Gaethje outlines what he would have done differently during his battle with Max Holloway.
After the terrible last-second knockout, Justin Gaethje chose to step away from fighting. There is no official statement on when he will return. However, ‘The Highlight’ is aware of what he would have done differently in his fight versus Holloway if he had the opportunity.
On the Anik & Florian podcast, Gaethje discussed what he did in the fourth round of the battle. He believes he should have continued to apply pressure to the former champion throughout the bout rather than allowing him to approach him.
I believe I would have applied more pressure, attempted to move forward, and fought harder if not. I expected him to come to me, but when he did, it was so unexpected and rapid that I didn’t see or detect it.
A victory over Holloway would have undoubtedly earned him a title shot. Gaethje had previously expressed want to fight Holloway again. ‘The Highlight’ exacted his revenge on Poirier, and he wishes to do the same with ‘Blessed’. It will be interesting to watch when, if at all, Justin Gaethje makes his comeback and who he fights.
