Johansson’s signing provides the organization with additional depth that they can call up if necessary, but time may be running out for him to make an impact in the NHL. Jared McIsaac, the team’s RFA, also needs a new contract, and Wyatt Newpower, 26, is about to become a UFA.
More crucially, the Red Wings will need to sign 23-year-old star Mortiz Seider to a long-term deal. Shayne Gostisbehere might leave the organization in free agency, while Patrick Kane and David Perron are two of the team’s key UFAs up front. Lucas Raymond and Joseph Veleno are among the notable RFAs looking for new contracts.
According to CapFriendly, the Red Wings have $29.367 million in cap space. After missing the playoffs again this year, the team is seeking to take a stride forward in 2024-25 under the leadership of GM Steve Yzerman.
