Thes Columbus Blue Jacket have a new general manager in place after hiring Don Waddell, and they must now work out their head coaching position. Pascal Vincent took up the post in a pinch after Mike Babcock was sacked before training camp even began, but the way the Blue Jackets performed this season does not speak well of Vincent as a coach, particularly the way he handled their younger players.
Frank Seravalli had Waddell on Frankly Speaking to discuss the coaching situation, and it appears that Waddell will speak with Vincent to see how they get along. But is that the correct play? Or should they look to go forward and offer the organization a new appearance and culture?
On Daily Faceoff Live, Frank Seravalli and Colby Cohen discussed their thoughts on what should happen with the Blue Jackets’ coaching situation.
Colby Cohen: You never know. These guys could spend some time together and finish each other’s sentences in a matter of days. Perhaps it is the ideal fit, but as an outsider here, I believe Don Waddell needs a fresh slate.
After John Tortorella left, this company soon devolved into a dumpster fire. It appeared that they had a solid culture, a nice structure, and that they were competitive, but then everything seemed to fall apart. Bradley Larsen, Pascal Vincent, and Mike Babcock. They seemed to have made a number of terrible decisions. They go out and sign Johnny Gaudreau, and the team has been dreadful. There’s been no direction.
Personally, I believe you should wipe the slate clean, bring in a new, fresh voice, and bring in your guy to truly usher in a new era of Columbus Blue Jacket hockey.
Frank Seravalli: I could not agree more. I also believe that the way young players were managed last year is unacceptable for a team with such promising future. That’s why I believe you need a fresh start.
