Sheffield Wednesday are interested in Mika Biereth again this summer, with Sturm Graz set to hold talks on the Arsenal striker this week. Biereth’s time with Sturm Graz has further fueled Wednesday’s interest, albeit their pursuit of him is complicated by the player’s contract issue.

The 21-year-old’s Arsenal contract expires in 2025, but Sheffield Wednesday wants him on loan. To have a genuine chance of making the move, he’d have to first extend his contract with the Gunners.

According to Simon Collings of The Standard, Sturm Graz will also be in the race, with the team scheduled to meet with Arsenal this week.

Collings reveals that Sturm will face competition from Championship clubs such as Sheffield Wednesday, although Biereth’s loan team is definitely eager to have him back.

Sturm director Andreas Schicker stated to the media last week, “Yes, we want to try to get Mika permanently.”

“We’ve got an appointment with Arsenal next week. Perhaps they will provide a reasonable price for us.”

Biereth spent the season on loan with two clubs, initially at Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership before transferring to Sturm Graz in Austria for the second part of the season.

That proved to be an inspired switch, as the striker went on to win his first two senior football trophies.

First, Biereth helped his side win the OFB Cup by scoring once and assisting once in three appearances beginning in the quarterfinals. Following that, he helped his team win the Austrian Bundesliga title with five league goals and three assists.

Biereth finished the season with 15 goals and nine assists in two loan periods, averaging one goal every 111 minutes.
