Hot News :Top Columbus Blue Jackets prospect Gavin Brindley joins USA for World Championship
USA Hockey announced Wednesday that Columbus Blue Jackets top prospect Gavin Brindley has been nominated to Team USA for the 2024 IIHF Men’s World Championships.
Brindley joins fellow prospects Will Smith of the San Jose Sharks and Ryan Leonard of the Washington Capitals.
Columbus picked Brindley as the 34th overall pick in the second round of the 2023 NHL Draft, and he made his NHL debut against the Carolina Hurricanes on April 16.
Brindley played the 2023-24 regular season for the University of Michigan Wolverines in the NCAA, scoring 25 goals and 28 assists for 53 points in 40 games, leading all Wolverines skaters. Brindley was awarded an NCAA First Team All-American, a Big Ten First All-Star, and the league’s Player of the Year after finishing tied for sixth among NCAA goal scorers. Brindley led Michigan in scoring, second in goals, and fourth in assists, as the Wolverines advanced to the 2024.
During the 2022-23 regular season, Brindley finished sixth on the team in scoring, trailing only NHL first-round choices Mackie Samoskevich (Florida Panthers) and Rutger McGroarty (Winnipeg Jets) and helping Michigan reach the Frozen Four. During his two seasons at Michigan, the 19-year-old scored 37 goals and 54 assists for 91 points and 50 penalty minutes in 81 NCAA games.
On Friday, the United States will meet Sweden in the World Championships’ first game.
