This Is The Great Day: a star message to world after new Chiefs contract could take him through rest of career

Travis Kelce has returned to the Kansas City Chiefs for the next four years, and it didn’t take long for the star tight end to reach out to Chiefs fans after signing his new contract.

Travis Kelce has sent a strong message to the world by guaranteeing his future with the Kansas City Chiefs, thanks in part to Patrick Mahomes’ influence on his new contract. The Chiefs’ star tight end has signed on for another four years with the organization, and he wasted no time in letting supporters know he is ready to go.

Shortly after the news of Kelce’s two-year contract extension, the 34-year-old produced a video that hinted at his and superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ goals for the 2024 NFL season. “Back at it again, baby,” Kelce exclaimed with genuine excitement in the brief videoKelce is preparing to be an unstoppable force in their pursuit of a third consecutive title, a historic feat yet to be seen in the NFL. The Chiefs are now reigning as back-to-back Super Bowl winners, defeating the Philadelphia Eagles and the San Francisco 49ers, the latter victory coming in a nail-biting overtime game.

When news broke that Kelce had signed an extension that would most likely complete his career in Kansas City, Mahomes couldn’t contain his excitement, taking to X to celebrate his teammate’s return. “I told you I would never let him leave! “Congratulations, my guy!” Mahomes exclaimed on his personal X account.

Prior to Kelce’s contract, Darren Waller was the highest-paid tight end in the NFL. In 2022, Waller signed a three-year, $51 million contract with the Las Vegas Raiders before being traded to the New York Giants a year later.

Waller earned $17 million a year, more than Minnesota Vikings star T.J. Hockenson ($16.5 million) and San Francisco 49ers star George Kittle ($15 million). Kittle’s previous contract paid him $14.3 million, the fourth highest in the league at the time.

While Kelce’s new contract with the Chiefs represents Kansas City’s commitment to achieving another title, it could also be interpreted as the franchise rewarding the 34-year-old for his dedication to the team. Kelce has previously taken hometown discounts to assist the front staff in navigating free agency and deciding which players to sign.Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes sent out a message to their NFL rivals after the former's contract extension

Kelce’s wage reduction certainly paid off, as the Chiefs won three Super Bowls with him and Mahomes leading the way. Furthermore, Kelce’s contract extension might be interpreted as the franchise’s way of compensating him for his contributions outside of championship wins while wearing the Chiefs uniform.

Since being selected in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft, Kelce has repeatedly proved why he is regarded as one of the best tight ends of all time. From 2016 to 2022, Kelce had seven straight seasons with more than 1,000 receiving yards, a record for any tight end in NFL history.

With Kelce presumably committed for the rest of his career, he and Mahomes have plenty of opportunities to extend their Super Bowl winning streak. If Kelce’s statements are to be believed, their quest for a third consecutive title begins right now.
