Kentucky news: New Kentucky guard a Star brings ‘special physicality and intensity’ to the floor
Otega Oweh made his Kentucky commitment official and signed with the Wildcats, bringing his recruitment to a close.
Oweh paid a visit to Kentucky at the end of last week and made a commitment to the state on Saturday.
In his sophomore season, the former Oklahoma guard averaged 11.4 points and 3.8 rebounds per game. He made 49.3 percent from the field and 37.7 percent from three.
Oweh is just what Kentucky needed: a tough and athletic wing on both sides of the court. He is quite versatile, which will provide Mark Pope with plenty of options.
“Otega shot 37 percent from the 3-point line last year,” Pope said in a statement as Oweh signed. “He excels at getting to the free throw line, and he brings a unique physicality and energy to the game. Last year, Otega spent the entire season as a full-time point guard in the Big 12. His tenacity on the field is infectious, and his humility off the court will endear him to Big Blue Nation.”
Oweh is a 6-foot-4 wing who like to finish at the rim, relying on his physicality and toughness to do so. Last year, he attempted 61 percent of his field goals at the rim.
One exciting aspect of Oweh’s game that gives Kentucky a lot of versatility is his ability to fire off the catch. Last season, he ranked in the 87th percentile for catch and shoot opportunities.
Oweh was Mark Pope’s third transfer commit, after Drexel center Amari Williams and San Diego State guard Lamont Butler.
