GOOD NEWS: Grizzlies’ Star finally makes new agency by joining franchise legend

Ja Morant had numerous challenges throughout his 2023-24 season with the Grizzlies. He missed the most of the season due to a shoulder injury and served a 25-game suspension. However, Morant is making significant changes. After leaving his longtime NBA agent Jim Tanner, Morant has joined Memphis icon Mike Miller.

Morant is joining Lift Sports Management, according to an announcement on their X account. Lift, founded by former Grizzlies player and NBA champion Mike Miller, is a full-service sports management agency that helps athletes achieve success on the court, in business, and in their personal life, according to the company’s website.
Lift represents numerous NBA and WNBA athletes. Some famous figures are Paolo Banchero, Patrick Beverley, Wendell Carter Jr., Sydney Colson, and Didi Richards. Former Grizzlies guard Tyus Jones is another well-known client.

Ja Morant’s transfer to Lift is a significant step toward achieving his aims.

One of Morant’s top summer focuses has been getting healthy. The top guard had a right shoulder subluxation in early January, ruling him out for the remainder of the 2023-24 season. Morant had just returned from his early-season suspension and was bringing Memphis to the next level.

In nine games, the Grizzlies guard averaged 25.1 points, 8.1 assists, and 5.6 rebounds while shooting 47.1 percent from the field. His efforts won him the Western Conference Player of the Week award in Week 9 of the NBA season.

Morant is a true game changer for the Grizzlies, and when he returns to health, the team should reclaim its standing as a Western Conference contender. It will be intriguing to observe how the company handles the roster into the 2024 summer. Regardless, there will be significant contributors returning.

The Grizzlies ended the 2023-24 season with a 27-55 record, ranking 13th in the Western Conference standings. Their result contrasted sharply with the previous year, when they finished 51-31 and earned the West’s second seed in the NBA Playoffs.

Of course, Memphis’ poor season must be viewed with a grain of salt given the staggering number of injuries they sustained. In addition to Ja Morant, the following players have lost substantial time due to injury: Desmond Bane, Marcus Smart, Derrick Rose, Jaren Jackson Jr., Zaire Williams, and many others.

Almost everyone on the Grizzlies’ roster was sidelined due to an injury. Nonetheless, the Western Conference may be in trouble once the team is healthy.
