GOOD NEWS: one of the most talented high school players in the country’ — has signed with Kentucky
Kentucky’s first acquisition under new head coach Mark Pope signed on Monday, making it official.
Collin Chandler, a former BYU recruit, has officially switched teams and signed with the Wildcats, the program announced on Monday.
“Collin Chandler is one of the most talented high school players in the country,” Pope said in a statement. “He has a silky-smooth jumper, a slippery ability to get to the rim, an explosive burst and the most impressive of all, he has incredible processing speed as he reads space and time and makes plays on pure instinct.”
Chandler was a part of the 2022 class and ranked among the top 35 players in the country. He committed to BYU and then went on a two-year mission journey.
Last Monday, the 6-foot-4 guard announced that he would be moving his commitment from BYU to Kentucky, following Mark Pope. He has four years of eligibility remaining and plans to enroll at Kentucky this summer.
“Collin is the definition of a servant leader,” he said. “He chose to abandon basketball and his life to help people in Africa and Europe for two years, at his own expense and will. It won’t be long before every Kentucky fan feels his heart and love for others. I can’t wait to coach a man and player like him.
Chandler scored 1,587 points and made 135 3-pointers during his time at Farmington High (UT).
He was selected Utah’s Gatorade Player of the Year in 2022, averaging 21.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game.
Chandler is part of Pope’s two-man high school class, which also includes Travis Perry, a four-star point guard from Lyon County, Kentucky. Perry was committed to the former staff under John Calipari and is the only member of the previous 2024 class who has maintained his pledge to Kentucky.
