SAD NEWS: The Owner of Kansas City Royals Just Declared That Manager Is No Longer…

John Sherman, the successful energy company owner, found himself on an unexpected journey around the world with his wife, Marny, after selling his company. While exploring Europe during their travels, Sherman received surprising news: his beloved Kansas City Royals were in the World Series.

Prompted by his wife’s observation of his keen interest in the Royals’ updates, Sherman returned home mid-journey to witness Games 6 and 7 of the World Series. Little did he know, this pivotal moment would lead him back to the ballpark years later as the team’s new controlling owner.

Sherman, a Kansas City native, expressed his gratitude and sense of responsibility in his new role. He acknowledged the privilege of leading the team and emphasized his commitment to the fans, players, staff, and community.

The acquisition of the Royals from David Glass for approximately $1 billion was unanimously approved by other MLB owners. Sherman’s ownership group, primarily comprised of local businessmen and notable fans like actor Eric Stonestreet, marks only the third ownership change in the team’s history since its establishment in 1969.

Sherman’s interest in purchasing the Royals began around five years ago, coinciding with his global travels and ownership of a minority stake in the Cleveland Indians. Despite initial hesitations, Sherman eventually pursued the opportunity, leading to the acquisition of the Royals.

The negotiations remained confidential until late August when news of the sale surfaced. With his background in baseball and ties to Kansas City, Sherman’s approval as the new owner was a formality.

Taking over the Royals at a pivotal moment, Sherman aims to support the team’s resurgence. Despite recent setbacks, including back-to-back 100-loss seasons, Sherman is optimistic about the team’s future. He plans to adopt a hands-off approach, entrusting the on-field decisions to manager Mike Matheny and general manager Dayton Moore, while remaining actively involved in ownership affairs. With a focus on sustained success and championship contention, Sherman is eager to contribute to the Royals’ journey back to prominence.
