Rafael Nadal secured a resounding victory in the first round of the Barcelona Open, defeating Flavio Cobolli in straight sets with impressive form.

Making his comeback from injury in just his second tournament in 15 months, Nadal displayed no signs of rust as he comfortably dispatched his 21-year-old opponent 6-2, 6-3.

The 37-year-old received a warm welcome from the crowd as he stepped onto the court named after him. Despite a few early loose forehands, the 22-time Grand Slam champion proved too strong for Cobolli.

While the young Italian appeared nervous and committed numerous errors, Nadal’s relentless pressure from the opposite end of the court played a significant role in the outcome.

Although Nadal faced a brief setback when he dropped serve for the first time in the third game of the second set, he quickly regained control after already securing a break against Cobolli.

Displaying glimpses of his trademark forehands, Nadal dominated the latter stages of the match and sealed victory when Cobolli netted a final backhand, prompting a celebratory fist pump from the Spaniard.
