SAD NEWS: WANG Chuqin just announce the death of his…

At the Campion College Auditorium, the dominance of maroon and gold was unmistakable as Wolmer’s triumphed in both the ISSA girls’ and boys’ Under-19 Table Tennis championships. In a closely contested final, Wolmer’s girls clinched a 3-2 victory against St. Jago High, while the boys secured a similar scoreline win over Kingston College.

Wolmer’s showcased a formidable lineup in the girls’ final, boasting three national players: Tsenaye Lewis, the 2023 National Champion, her sister Gianna Lewis, and Liana Campbell. St. Jago countered with their own talent, including national players Kelsey Davidson and Keara Whyte, the runner-up to Lewis in the previous year’s JTTA National Championships.

The tie commenced with Tsenaye Lewis claiming victory over Kelsey Davidson, putting Wolmer’s in the lead. Keara Whyte leveled the score with a win over Gianna Lewis. Liana Campbell then restored Wolmer’s advantage, defeating Leanna Smith. The much-anticipated rematch between Tsenaye Lewis and Keara Whyte saw Whyte take an early lead, eventually clinching victory, setting the stage for a title-deciding match between Gianna Lewis and Kelsey Davidson.

In the boys’ final, Wolmer’s took an initial lead over Kingston College, which was later equalized by KC. However, Wolmer’s secured the title with successive wins, culminating in a straight-set victory by Jelani Barnaby over KC captain Chadwick Duff.

Reflecting on their victory, coach Clive Grossett expressed ambitions for further success, aiming for the all-island championship in both girls’ and boys’ categories. Additionally, Immaculate Conception High and Jamaica College emerged victorious in the girls’ U-16 and boys’ categories, respectively, setting the stage for the upcoming all-island matchups following the ISSA Rural Area semi-finals and finals.
