Video footage of the incident, which was shared on social media, captured the fan saying to Weaver, “You threatened me.”
Weaver chose not to comment on the matter when approached on Sunday.
According to Jeffrey Calloway, a 46-year-old season-ticket holder from Detroit who was seated near Weaver, the fan approached the general manager twice during the game before being escorted away by security. Calloway recounted that the fan, who was wearing Detroit Red Wings attire, initially gestured at the scoreboard earlier in the game, prompting Weaver’s nonchalant response. However, the situation escalated when the fan returned and criticized Weaver after player Jalen Duren was ejected midway through the fourth quarter. It was then that Weaver instructed the fan to leave, leading security to intervene.
Security personnel escorted the fan away from the seating area following the altercation.
This incident occurred amidst a challenging season for the Pistons, who earlier set a single-season league record with 28 consecutive losses. As of Sunday, the team shares the league’s worst record with the Washington Wizards. Under Weaver’s leadership as general manager for three-plus seasons, the Pistons have achieved a record of 70-229.
The Pistons are scheduled to face the Charlotte Hornets at home on Monday night.
